A former shire incorporated into the department of Vaucluse on June 25th. 1793. Local administrative centre. 1100 inhabitants known as "Saltésiens".
A holiday resort specialising in country holidays. Stations Vertes de Vacances.b>

In the Sault countryside you will discover the genuine wild beauty of the high plateaux of Vaucluse, will be welcomed in traditional fashion by these wise mountain people, amidst fields of golden wheat and blue lavender.

These vast stretches of open countryside were selected in 1992 for inclusion by the Ministry of the Environment among the twenty great sites to be protected by UNESCO as belonging to World Heritage.

The invigorating climat, ideal for relaxation, rest and open air activities, promises the quality of life that you dream of. While in SAULT, the nearby warm springs of MONTBRUN LES BAINS, 11km away, will be available for a health cure under the care of specially qualified staff.

This former capital of the Comté, SAULT EN PROVENCE, built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley that bears its name, is an ideal point of departure for drives and hikes on Mont Ventoux, in the Nesque Gorges, the Toulourenc Valley, on the Albion Plateau and the Luberon Hills, and other beauty spots near the Drôme Provençale and the Alpes de Haute Provence.

The parishes of SAINT CHRISTOL - MONIEUX - AUREL and SAINT TRINIT combine with SAULT to form the ancient Comté de SAULT, each with its Romanesque church or chapel. The remains of a rich past can be discovered along tracks edged by lavender fields whose tones and scents will delight your senses.

SAULT has an important place on the "Lavender Routes" which in their latest version take the visitor from CARPENTRAS via the Nesque Gorges with their wild grandeur, or from VAISON LA ROMAINE throught the Toulourenc Valley with the lovely villages of SAINT LEGER, BRANTES, SAVOILLANS, AULAN, REILHANETTE and MONTBRUN LES BAINS which you will find if you follow our recommended routes (see circuits).

Following the "Lavender Routes" you will discover the features of this countryside that have been fashioned by a century of human ingenuity, recently combined with scientific research.
